Didn't work out

I don't want to bash the product (CrystaLac EP Poly) unfairly. Clearly, many people love it and have good results. For me (a beginner) and my environment (hot & dry, even though I tried to apply it during cooler temps), it just didn't work out. The product dried too quickly and left visible brush marks. It would probably look great sprayed on, but I don't have such equipment. And while I know there is a companion Reducer/Retarder/Thinner, I would rather not have to make a separate purchase to get good results (I'm not sure it would have made a difference, anyway).

Hey Diane,
Truly we thank you for your honest feedback. We are happy to provide you with some tips to get better results.
On the back of the container we provide recommended temperature and humidty range. That is 68-78 degrees F, and 50-70% humidty (if you can get it there).
With Waterbased products, the environment can make all the difference on how the self leveling performs.
That is why we offer the CrystaLac Reducer Retarder, which helps aid in spray sessions for flow bu thinning the product, and it slows down the dry time to allow more time for self leveling when the environment is hot and dry.
Although this is a seperate purchase, it isn't needed for every customer. However, it is very helpful for those in your environment setting.

Here are some tips that could be helpful when brushing the product on a surface:
(You may already know these tips, but hopefully someone else can benfit from these as well)

1) Use enough product that it is gliding and spreading well. Thin coats are best, but too thin can result in a streaky appearance.
2) Use a soft bristled brush, or a high qualilty dense foam brush.
3) Using light pressure. The weight of the brush is enough to spread the product. Angle the brush at about a 60 degree angle. Pushing too hard can plow the product around the brush.
4)Once applied on your surface, let is self level and avoid over working the brush and product. This can disrupt the process.

I plan to buy more

I bought a quart to use as a trial finish on a set of custom shelves a woodworker was making for me out of pecan and cherry wood. They look beautiful, the Extreme Protection Polyurethane really brought out the grain in the pecan and cherry. The woodworker was impressed enough to ask me to get more for the next project he plans to do for me.
